Metrohm NanoRam 1064

Handheld Raman Spectrometer for Raw Material Identification

Fast, non-destructive 1064 nm Raman identification and verification of pharmaceutical and industrial raw materials, with sampling accessories selected around the actual sample and packaging.

The NanoRam-1064 Flex combines the proven NanoRam-1064 platform with a configurable package that allows laboratories to select only the sampling attachments required for their workflow. It is particularly suited to APIs, excipients, intermediates, colored materials and high-fluorescence samples that can be difficult for shorter-wavelength handheld Raman systems.

  • 1064 nm excitation to minimize fluorescence from colored and difficult materials
  • Non-destructive measurement directly or through transparent glass and plastic packaging
  • 21 CFR Part 11-compliant embedded and PC software with audit trail and electronic report signing
  • Configurable sampling attachments for bags, vials, bottles, drums, powders, liquids, gels and solids
  • User-definable methods and libraries with clear pass/fail verification results
  • Rugged IP65 handheld design for warehouse, loading-dock, sampling-booth, laboratory and field use

Supplied and supported in Pakistan by Continental Worldwide Trading Company (CWTC).

Key Features

1064 nm Fluorescence Reduction

Longer-wavelength excitation minimizes fluorescence from colored, excipient-rich and otherwise difficult samples, expanding the range of materials that can be identified by handheld Raman.

Non-Destructive Through-Container Testing

Many raw materials can be measured directly or through transparent glass and plastic packaging, reducing sample handling, exposure and contamination risk.

Configurable Flex Sampling

The user selects point-and-shoot, vial, bottle, large-bottle, immersion, right-angle or large-spot attachments according to sample form, container and working environment.

21 CFR Part 11 Data Integrity

NOS-1064 and NID EX support secure records, complete audit trails, electronic report signing, user controls and centralised data and report management.

Clear Pass/Fail Verification

Reduced-variable multivariate methods use representative spectra and natural lot variation to provide statistically based pass/fail verification results.

Pharmacopeial Performance Support

Performance validation is designed around major Raman pharmacopeial methods, with qualification documentation and implementation services available.

Onboard Methods and Libraries

The embedded software supports identification, verification, library development, method development and validation, and transfer of methods and library entries between devices.

Warehouse-Ready Operation

A bright touchscreen, one-touch workflow, 1D/2D barcode reader, batch mode and single-handed design allow trained non-spectroscopists to perform routine tests.

Method Transfer and Deployment

Libraries and validated methods can be transferred across instruments to support harmonised operation across warehouses, plants or multiple sites.

Where the NanoRam 1064 fits in laboratory workflows

Pharmaceutical incoming raw-material identification

Pharmaceutical Incoming Raw-Material Identification

Rapid verification of APIs, excipients and intermediates at goods receipt, quarantine, warehouse or dispensing areas. The operator can select a validated method by barcode, scan the material and obtain a clear pass/fail result.

High-fluorescence excipients and colored materials

High-Fluorescence Excipients and Colored Materials

1064 nm excitation improves the ability to verify materials such as cellulose derivatives, polysorbates, coated excipients, Opadry® materials, pigments and other samples that may fluoresce strongly with shorter Raman wavelengths.

100% Container or Batch-Sampling Workflows

Handheld operation supports identity testing at the container rather than moving all containers to a central lab. The exact sampling plan remains subject to the customer’s GMP procedures and applicable regulations.

Personal care, food and ingredient verification

Personal Care, Food and Ingredient Verification

Screening and identity verification of ingredients where Raman response, packaging and method specificity are suitable. Application feasibility should be confirmed with representative samples.

Chemical and industrial raw materials

Chemical and Industrial Raw Materials

Identification of solvents, organic and inorganic chemicals, polymers, additives, dyes, pigments and related production materials using customer-built or optional spectral libraries.

Frequently Asked Question

1064 nm excitation produces less fluorescence from many colored, excipient-rich and difficult materials. This can allow Raman identification where fluorescence from shorter wavelengths obscures the chemical fingerprint. For pharmaceutical it allows you freedom to virtual measure any raw material including dyes, colored samples, tablet coatings (eg. Opadry)

It can measure many materials through transparent glass and plastic containers or bags. Packaging thickness, colour, additives, surface condition and sample position can affect the result. It should not be described as a universal through-opaque-container analyzer

Metrohm states that the NOS-1064 embedded software and NID EX PC software are 21 CFR Part 11 compliant. NID EX provides a secure database, complete audit trail and electronic report signing. The customer must still validate and control the complete operating process.

Metrohm states that NanoRam-1064 meets the requirements of USP <858>, European Pharmacopoeia 2.2.48, Japanese Pharmacopoeia 2.26 and Chinese Pharmacopoeia Raman guidance. Final use must follow the customer’s applicable monograph, SOP and validation plan.

Yes. NanoRam supports method and library transfer between devices, which can help standardise testing across departments, plants or multiple sites after appropriate validation and change control.
